Stumble & Relish

An augmented reality experience created as part of a brand refresh.

Overview

My Role: Interactive Advertising Team Member

Summary of Responsibilities

     • brainstorm ideas for a new advertising campaign for the client company

     • document research process, findings, and design ideas

     • technical implementation of advertising brand refresh (augmented reality)

Stumble & Relish is a boutique selling handcrafted souvenirs located in the Chicago area. Desiring a brand refresh, they approached Columbia College Chicago for help. I was a part of the team that implemented this refresh.

I was a member of the interactive advertising sub-team, whose goal was to create a non-traditional advertising campaign for the brand. We ended up creating augmented reality (AR) lenses due to their ability to aid integration between physical and digital elements of the store, visual appeal, and ability to attract new audiences.

Creation Process

Our creation process began with defining some of the problems faced by Stumble & Relish in their current brand design and brainstorming possible solutions. We conducted research on these solutions to determine their benefit to the brand, their feasibility, and cost. Ultimately, we narrowed down to creating AR lenses. We created 2 AR lenses for the brand.

Once we decided on creating an AR lens, we weighed the pros and cons of the various AR creation tools such as Lens Studio (Snapchat's creation tool), Meta Spark (Meta's creation tool), Adobe Aero, and Unity.

We decided to create lenses for Instagram/Meta due to that social media being the one that the brand was most established on. However, we would prototype the lens through Lens Studio due to it having easier asynchronous collaboration and similar features to Meta.

We decided to create a lens that could be anchored to a business card because we wanted to help branch between the physical and digital storefronts. Many of the initial lens prototypes that we created suffered because they would only work well when viewed from the top or the front. The final lens which was created includes elements on multiple axes to ensure ease of viewing from multiple angles and tells a story using elements from Stumble & Relish's brand. I was responsible for much of the ideation and iteration of this lens.
